about
about
iris is a home security camera designed to look like a decorative object rather than surveillance equipment. a smoked-glass face hides the lens and sensors, and a soft metallic shell sits comfortably on a shelf.
a physical privacy dial on the side turns recording off with a satisfying click, and the lens visibly retreats behind the glass, so everyone in the room knows when they are on camera.
on-device processing keeps footage local by default, sending only the alerts that matter to your phone.

home cameras look clinical and leave people unsure whether they are being recorded. the brief was a camera that feels at home in a living space and makes privacy visible and easy to control.

01 clinical design :
most cameras look like security hardware and stand out in a living room.
02 unclear recording state :
small leds don’t make it obvious when the camera is watching.
03 privacy worries :
cloud-only storage makes people uneasy about where their footage goes.
